Fall Detection Explained: How It Works and Why It Saves Lives

By The OmniBand TeamJan 12, 20263 min read
Accelerometers, gyroscopes, and algorithms. We demystify the tech that acts as a 24/7 safety net.

The "Golden Hour" is a medical concept stating that trauma patients have the best chance of survival if they receive care within 60 minutes. For seniors who fall and cannot get up, time is the enemy.

The Physics of a Fall

A fall has a specific signature: a sudden change in velocity (acceleration) followed by a sudden stop (impact) and then... stillness. OmniBand's sensors look for this exact pattern.

Reducing False Alarms

Dropping the device on a table shouldn't call 911. Smart algorithms analyze the orientation after the impact. If the device remains vertical (standing up), help isn't summoned. If it remains horizontal (lying down), the alert is triggered.

Automatic fall detection is the layer of protection that speaks for you when you can't speak for yourself.
